Structured data guideOrganization schema: properties, example and WordPress setup
By Anis Harbaoui, SEO specialist
Organization schema is the structured-data node that identifies the company behind a website: its name, URL, logo, official profiles and the topics it is known for. Every other entity on the site points back to it as publisher. This guide lists the properties that matter, shows a complete example and explains the setup on WordPress.

- Use one stable
@id(for example/#organization) and reference it from every page. - Spell the name exactly the same in schema, site title, logo and profiles.
- Put only profiles you control in
sameAs. - Declare topics in
knowsAboutwith Wikidata URLs to remove ambiguity.
What does Organization schema do?
It gives search engines one authoritative description of who publishes the site. Google uses it to pick the logo shown with your results, to connect your site with your profiles and to reconcile your brand with an entity in its Knowledge Graph. When it is missing or inconsistent, Google infers your identity from scattered signals and often gets it wrong.
Which Organization properties matter most?
| Property | What to put in it | Impact |
|---|---|---|
@id | A stable URI such as https://example.com/#organization | Lets every page reference the same entity |
name | The brand name, spelled identically everywhere | Core identity signal |
alternateName | Common variants of the name | Matches other spellings |
url | The homepage URL | Ties the entity to the domain |
logo | ImageObject, at least 112×112 px, crawlable | Logo in results and panels |
sameAs | LinkedIn, GitHub, WordPress.org, Wikidata | Disambiguation and reconciliation |
knowsAbout | Topics as Wikidata URLs | Declares subject authority |
contactPoint, address | Support email, legal address | Trust; needed for some merchant features |
A complete Organization schema example
{
"@type": "Organization",
"@id": "https://example.com/#organization",

{ "@type": "Thing", "name": "WordPress",

}Each topic carries a readable name and a Wikidata URL: the name helps parsers that read text, the URL removes doubt about which concept you mean.

Frequently asked questions
Should Organization schema be on every page?
Yes, as a node in each page’s graph, referenced by @id as publisher.
Does Organization schema create a Knowledge Panel?
Not by itself. A panel depends on Google recognising the entity from independent sources; schema makes reconciliation easier and more accurate.
Can I add Wikidata to sameAs?
Yes, if an item exists for your organization. Create one only when independent published sources about it exist.
What logo size does Google need?
At least 112×112 pixels, in a format Google can index, at a crawlable URL.
