TroubleshootingWhy is my schema not showing in Google? Six causes and fixes
By Anis Harbaoui, SEO specialist · Updated 16 October 2026
Valid schema makes a page eligible for rich results; it does not guarantee them. When markup passes validation but nothing appears, the cause is almost always one of six things: the feature was retired, a required property is missing, markup does not match the page, the page is not indexed, Google has not recrawled it, or Google judged the result unhelpful.

- Check the feature still exists before debugging anything else.
- Errors block eligibility; warnings only limit richness.
- Compare every marked-up value with the visible page.
The six causes at a glance
| Cause | How to check | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Feature retired or restricted | Google’s structured data search gallery | Stop chasing it; keep markup only if it describes the page |
| Required property missing | Rich Results Test shows an error | Add the data in WordPress (brand, price, rating, image) |
| Markup does not match the page | Compare prices, ratings, dates with what users see | Make them identical |
| Page not indexed | URL Inspection in Search Console | Fix noindex, canonical or crawl issues first |
| Not recrawled yet | “Last crawl” in URL Inspection | Request indexing; allow days to weeks |
| Quality or policy decision | Manual actions report | Improve the page; remove misleading markup |
Which rich results were removed?
In August 2023 Google limited FAQ rich results to authoritative government and health sites and stopped showing HowTo rich results. In 2025 it announced the phase-out of Course info, Claim Review, Estimated salary, Learning video, Special announcement, Vehicle listing and Book actions. Markup for these stays valid but produces no visual result.
Step-by-step diagnosis
Confirm the feature exists
Check the current search gallery.
Test the live URL
Run the URL, not pasted code, through the Rich Results Test and fix every error.
Count the JSON-LD sources
Only one plugin should output schema (see duplicate schema explained).
Inspect indexing
Indexed, correct canonical, recent crawl.
Compare with visible content
Every price, rating and date must be visible.
Wait for reports
Judge only after the Enhancements report reflects the change.
Errors vs warnings
An error on a required property makes the item ineligible; fix it first. A warning on a recommended property only limits how rich the result can be. On WooCommerce, the usual errors are a missing brand and a missing identifier; see the Product schema guide.

How long does it take for rich results to appear?
After you fix the markup, Google has to recrawl and reprocess the page. Request indexing in the URL Inspection tool to speed that up, then expect anything from a few days to a few weeks. Run the live test first. If the live page shows valid markup and the indexed version does not, you are only waiting for a recrawl.
Valid markup, still no rich result: why?
Valid and eligible are not the same as shown. Google decides case by case whether to display an enhancement, and it can hold back for quality or site-level reasons. Some features have also been limited or retired, as the removal list above shows.
If the test passes and the page is indexed, the honest answer can be that Google chose not to show it. Improve the page, keep the markup accurate and check again after a few weeks.
Which Search Console reports should I check?
- URL Inspection compares the indexed page with the live page and lists the structured data it detected.
- The enhancement reports show valid items, warnings and errors by type, with the affected URLs.
- Page indexing confirms the page is indexed and not marked noindex or blocked.
- Manual actions is where a structured data penalty would appear.
Frequently asked questions
How long do rich results take to appear?
After Google recrawls and reprocesses the page: usually a few days to a few weeks.
Can a plugin guarantee rich results?
No. A plugin can only produce complete, valid markup; display is Google’s decision.
Should I remove FAQ schema?
Not necessarily. It is harmless on a genuine FAQ page, but expect no visual result.
